RICHMAND, Virginia (WRIC) – As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues, many in the United States are wondering: how can we help?
It is difficult to separate real charities from opportunistic fraudsters, so here are three reliable organizations that accept donations to help ordinary Ukrainians affected by the war.
Doctors Without Borders
Doctors Without Borders is an organization of health professionals who provide care in areas of the world that are not maintained.
In Ukraine, the group has been assisting local health systems since the beginning of the conflict in eastern Ukraine in 2014, with most of their work being carried out in occupied Luhansk and Donetsk. Doctors Without Borders has a large track record in the region.
“We are mobilizing a response preparedness for emergencies to be prepared for a variety of potential needs,” the group said in a statement. “Our teams in Belarus and Russia are ready to provide humanitarian assistance if necessary, and we want to send teams to other neighboring countries to be ready to respond in Ukraine or to provide humanitarian medical assistance to refugees seeking asylum abroad. ”

International Committee of the Red Cross
The Red Cross and Red Crescent are some of the oldest and most well-known humanitarian aid organizations in the world.
Currently, the Red Cross is focusing on providing fresh water to many Ukrainians who have lost access due to heavy fighting in urban areas.
“ICRC engineers and doctors are working to help more than 3 million people get clean water and improve the living conditions of more than 66,000 people whose homes have been damaged by heavy fighting,” the ICRC said.

Humanitarian Foundation of Ukraine
The Humanitarian Fund of Ukraine (UHF) was established by the United Nations in 2019 to provide assistance to victims of the fighting in eastern Ukraine.
The fund is usually distributed over rounds of funding directed to local projects in Ukraine that help rebuild civil society and address pressing needs.
Past projects have included food distribution and assistance to thousands of Ukrainians displaced during a forest fire in occupied Luhansk.
