RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — If you’re planning a trip from Central Virginia to North Carolina’s Upper Banks for Memorial Day weekend, you need to plan for inclement weather.
This is due to a surface low pressure system that will form off the Florida coastline and head toward the Carolinas, bringing dangerous surf and burst current conditions this weekend.
A gale warning is also in effect for the Outer Banks from Friday through Saturday. Occasional wind gusts of up to 50 mph are possible over the next few days. This gusty wind will create dangerous conditions on the water.
Along with strong wind, rain is expected.
Rain will begin in the Outer Banks region on Friday and continue through Sunday. Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible, with parts of the Outer Banks receiving two to four inches of rain over the weekend.
So if you’re heading to North Carolina’s Outer Banks this weekend, expect some wind and some rain. Plan accordingly and listen to local officials, especially when it comes to the risk of gusts and other potentially dangerous weather conditions.
