Western Albemarle golf team wins Jefferson County title | Sport

The Western Albemarle golf team won the Jefferson County Tournament on Monday at Lake Monticello Golf Course.

All four Warriors golfers scored 80 or better en route to a team score of 311 and the district team title.

Albemarle (325) was second and Goochland (339) was third, just one stroke ahead of fourth-place Fluvanna County (340). Charlottesville (348), Louisa County (354), Orange County (355) and Monticello (361) round out the field.

Charlottesville’s Preston Burton shot a 72 to earn the individual tournament medals.

Sophomore Elsie McCleary shot a 74 for the second-highest individual round to lead the Warriors. Jack Crombie shot a 77 and Addison Ritter and Joseph Marinelli finished with 80s for Western. Liam Foster (81) and Grace Birley (88) also played for the Warriors.

Addison Doreau led Albemarle with a round of 76. Teammate Charles Stifler was one stroke behind with a 77, followed by Bennett Shantz (82) and Ryan Bersuder (90).

Fluvanna’s Killian Donnelly shot a 74 to tie for the second-best round of the day. His teammate Mason Chiavaro finished with an 88, while William Bishop and Cohen Purviance had 89s.

The teams will advance to their regional tournaments next week.
