PASADENA, CA. – Milo Ventimiglia wanted to change the situation afterwards six seasons on NBC’s This Is Us — both physically and professionally.
He found that opportunity in the upcoming ABC series ” The company you keepa high-stakes romance story that is a remake of the Korean drama My Fellow Citizens.
Ventimiglia plays Charlie, a successful and stylish con artist who needs to pay off a big debt to a dangerous man. He meets a CIA agent named Emma (Catherine Haena Kim). Each tries to hide their identity from the other, while their entanglement grows as they face external dangers due to their work.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday at the biennial TV critics event, Ventimiglia said it was nice to play someone closer to himself, living in a modern day where he can lose Jack Pearson’s hair and clothes. He enjoyed being able to shave and not “pull up his pants a little higher because it’s the 80s.”
“I couldn’t just design a character anymore. I just had to do it and be myself,” he said.
But he hasn’t completely left “This Is Us” behind: Ventimiglia, who also executive produces the series, said he brought in roughly “90% of the “This Is Us” crew to work on “The Company You Keep.”
The series is also executive produced John M. Chu. The premiere will take place on February 19 at 10:00 PM ET.
