Thousands of people are without power in Virginia due to the storm

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — With the arrival of stormy weather — and the expected arrival of Post-Tropical Cyclone Ian from the south — customers across Virginia are facing power outages.

As of 9 p.m., 83,313 customers across the state of Virginia are without power.

Dominion Energy

The latest update from Dominion Energy as of 9 p.m. Friday shows 61,951 customers are without power in Dominion Energy’s service area.

  • Newport News — 4,313 customers
  • Norfolk — 17,109 customers
  • Chesapeake — 2,506 customers
  • Virginia Beach — 16,199 customers
  • City of Richmond – 254 customers
  • Henrico County – 569 customers
  • Chesterfield County – 2,192 customers
  • Dinwiddie — 880 customers
  • James City — 1,230 customers

Northern Neck Electric Cooperative.

Northern Neck Electric Cooperative (NNEC) reported that as of 6:00 PM Friday evening, a total of 1,747 customers were without power — 8.8% of NNEC’s total customer base.

According to NNEC, the cause of the outage was a tree falling on a power line. Crews are said to be working to restore power and power is expected to be restored around 9 p.m.

  • King George – 217 (7.41% of customers)
  • Northumberland — 1,437 (27.48% of customers)
  • Lancaster — 92 (4.16% of customers)

Update at 7:30 p.m.: Power has been restored to about 1,300 customers, according to a statement from the Northern Neck Electric Cooperative, which also said restoration crews will continue to work on remaining outages. According to the calculations of the energy cooperative, less than 400 members remain without electricity.

Southside Electric Cooperative

Southside Electric Cooperative, which serves counties between Petersburg and the North Carolina border, said a total of 4,171 customers were without power as of 9 p.m. Friday.

  • Amelia – 380 (7.9% of customers)
  • Braunschweig — 548 (23.4% of customers)
  • Mecklenburg — 195 (45.9% of customers)
  • Dinwidde — 103 (1.6% of customers)
  • Lunenburg — 761 (19.8% of customers)
  • Appomattox — 1,100 (64.5% of customers)
