The Perkiman School Department is changing COVID’s contact tracking, quarantine rules

ARKIT PERQUIMANCE, NC (WAVY) – Perkimans County School officials have changed the instructions of the Department of Quarantine and Contact Tracking.

The Board of Education met Tuesday night for a special meeting to review the latest instructions from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

The NCDHHS no longer recommends tracking individual contacts and expelling from school if an asymptomatic person has been exposed to COVID-19. The change applies to everyone, regardless of who exposed them, whether they are vaccinated, or require a mask in schools.

The council voted unanimously on Tuesday to change its policy to recommend but not demand masks for students and staff.

However, federal law still requires all people on buses to wear masks.

The new recommendations in Perkimans take effect on February 21, so schools will have time to communicate and prepare for new procedures.
