The best ways to save in February

Despite being the shortest month of the year, there are plenty of opportunities to save on purchases big and small in February.

We look at products to look out for in Consumer Reports’ Best Time to Buy section.

If you’ve been putting off buying a new smartphone, CR said now might be the best time to do so.

“Samsung is set to reveal its newest smartphone, the Galaxy S-23, earlier this month,” said Samantha Gordon, shopping editor at Consumer Reports. “Whenever any new phone hits the market, we often see previous models start to go on sale, and you’ll see a lot of special offers from all the major carriers.”

If you want a bigger screen, look no further than a new tablet deal. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite has passed CR’s tests and is only $299 on Amazon.

Tired of having to troubleshoot your old printer? February might be the time to get a new one.

The Epson Ecotank is only $229.99 at Amazon and Office Depot.

An inkjet printer has very inexpensive printing costs and the tanks hold a lot of refillable ink, meaning you’ll spend less on printing each year.

And at the end of the month, look out for President’s Day sales on high-end items like dishwashers and mattresses.

“You should never pay full price for a mattress, so if you want to buy one right now, wait until the end of the month,” Gordon said. “That’s when all the big brands will get the best discounts.”

The Helix mattress is CR’s highest rated innerspring, and the Helix Sleep’s queen size is only $1,899.

CR said that based on its testing, the durability of this mattress is top-notch, meaning that after eight years of simulated use, there is no noticeable change in support, only slight changes in firmness.
