Richmond City Sheriff’s Office warns of doctor’s office fraud

RICHMAND, Virginia (WRIC) – On Monday, the Richmond Sheriff’s Office issued a warning about fraudsters calling doctors’ offices using MPs’ names and badge numbers to access doctors’ cell phone information.

Fraudsters who call 804-220-5596 claim that the doctor in the office did not appear in court after the judge accidentally summoned him as a witness, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

Fraudsters claim that a judge has issued a federal warrant and the doctor must pay $ 1,000 for each charge. They ask the doctor to meet them near the jail with the money to avoid arrest, and provide the doctor’s cell phone number to help track them down at this time.

Judges do not select witnesses at random, the Richmond Sheriff’s Office will never call anyone to get their money, and will not tell a person that they need to track them or their phone for any reason, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
