Police in Fairfax County, Virginia, said a man has died after being fatally stabbed by his stepson Tuesday night.

Adam Timothy Jackson Jr., 39, has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Alan Miller Kaufman, 68, according to a news release.

Jackson is being held without bond in the Fairfax County Jail.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday, officers were called to the 1200 block of Colonial Road in McLean, just east of McLean Central Park, for a report of a stabbing.

Jackson’s mother called 911 to report that her son had injured her and her husband, police said.

When officers arrived, they said Jackson came out of the home and was arrested. Inside, officers found Kaufman with an upper body injury. Rescuers tried to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jackson’s mother was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The main forensic medical examination will conduct an autopsy in the coming days.

Police have not yet released a motive. Detectives are investigating and collecting surveillance video and other evidence to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal stabbing, police said.
