Police: A Maryland man died in a hang glider crash in Virginia

Virginia Police say a Maryland man was killed when his hang glider crashed into a tree and crashed.

Woodstock, Virginia (AP) – Virginia police say a Maryland man was killed when his hang glider crashed into a tree and crashed.

Virginia State Police say the crash happened Thursday afternoon near Woodstock in Shenandoah County.

A preliminary investigation found that the man lost control of the hang glider and crashed into a tree before hitting the ground.

The pilot died at the scene. Police say the pilot was identified as 71-year-old Ward Odenwald of Woodbaine, Maryland.

Adenwald was the only person on a hang glider at the time of the crash. Police say the crash was reported to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The investigation into the disaster continues.
