HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — Next weekend is the biggest holiday celebration in Hopewell this year.
According to cities websiteOn Sunday, December 4, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., “Ignite the Night” will take place. The event will include a city tree lighting ceremony, a Christmas parade, a winter fest and a visit from Santa Claus.
The parade begins at 4pm at Cavalier Square Mall and will travel down 15th Street, City Point Road and Main Street before ending at the Ashford Civic Plaza.
Immediately following the end of the parade, the official lighting ceremony will begin at the Ashford Civic Plaza. Before the start of the illumination, the city leadership will make a short speech.
The Winter Festival will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., and activities will include crafts and mini-train rides at the Hopewell Public Library, as well as the Cowson Street Children’s Zoo. Face coverings are recommended for indoor activities and physical distancing is required for outdoor activities.
Visits with Santa Claus will take place in the library on the mezzanine. Visitors are asked to take their own photos.
Drivers should expect significant traffic delays near the parade route, and spectators are asked to stay on the sidewalk throughout the parade.
