HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Crews worked through the night battling a “large brush fire” in Hanover County, according to the Hanover County Fire Department.
The department sent out a message on social media early Tuesday morning saying the Virginia Department of Forestry, the Hanover Sheriff’s Office and the Hanover County Fire Department were working together to extinguish the fire. The Virginia Department of Forestry has reportedly brought in heavy equipment to help contain the fire.
Hanover said the fire contained about four to five acres of land, but “access is limited due to the thick brush and terrain.”
The report says heavy smoke is expected in the area of I-95 near the Ashland exit, between mile markers 92 and 94.
Crews were expected to increase work at sunrise, Hanover said.
