Gold Cup – October 22 (you and 9 friends for $895)

The International Gold Cup returns to Middleburg in just three weeks. As with last year, admission is limited to those who purchase packages and tailgates.

The International Gold Cup returns to The Plains, Virginia on October 22, and like last year, admission only for those purchasing packages and the back door.

Individual tickets will not be sold. There are boxes and tents.

A rail seat, which comes with 10 tickets, one reserved car pass and two regular car passes, costs $895 along the racetrack fence. Tailgate spots one row back of the rail are $795. A limited number of Members Hill spaces are $795 and small spaces for a car and up to four people are $400.



The horse industry is a major contributor to Virginia’s economy. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reports that the horse industry typically brings in more than $2 billion annually, although the pandemic has had a financial impact with the cancellation of horse racing. The Gold Cup is one of the largest steeplechase events in the United States

There was no in-person attendance at the 2020 Fall International Gold Cup, although it was broadcast live. Space for in-person visits was limited in 2021.

There are nearly 184,000 horses in Virginia, and the equine industry employs about 39,000 people.

“We are excited to see the return of the horse industry to Virginia. So many jockeys, trainers and people in the industry depend on these races and the purses they win in them,” said William Ellison, Chairman Virginia Gold Cup Association.

The International Gold Cup and its spring counterpart, the Virginia Gold Cup, draw about 45,000 spectators each year, although those numbers were lower in 2021.

Gates open at 10am with the first race at 12.30pm on October 22nd.
