RICHMAND, Virginia (WRIC) – William Fox Elementary School students return to personal learning on Monday, March 21, following a unanimous vote by the Richmond Public Schools Council on Monday.
Selected temporary the site will be Richmond’s first Baptist church on Monument Avenue. All members of the council expressed their gratitude for the generosity of the First Baptist, who offered to accept Fox students.
“I was just warm to know that there is an institution that accepts our children and says they don’t want money,” said Maria White, a member of the district’s 2nd board.
During the council meeting, there was some uncertainty as to whether the council had approved the proposal. A member of Kenya’s 3rd District Council, Gibson, argued that the decision to join the First Baptist was entirely in the hands of the Fox Elementary administration.
“The decision on a temporary place is ultimately not a council decision,” Gibson said. “There is no need to vote; it is something that can and should move forward. “
The council ultimately decided to vote anyway to support the decision and prevent any possible slowdown in the decision-making process.
