Christian Bale inspired by Columbus | entertainment

Christian Bale looked to Columbus for inspiration for his role in Amsterdam.

The 48-year-old actor stars as a one-eyed veteran-turned-doctor in David O. Russell’s upcoming mystery, and he admitted he “studied” Peter Falk’s role as the title character in the long-running detective series for ideas.

When asked if he was inspired by Columba, he explained: “Definitely. Yes. Yes. His manners! I definitely studied him.”

Christian and David spent five years carefully planning the story over breakfasts at various diners, and the men explained that the Oscar-winning star’s order varied dramatically depending on which film he was working on at any given time.

Christian told Deadline: “I went from having a lot of coffee to eating 16 eggs and three bowls of rice. We took a picture of me and Dave having breakfast together and I have to tell you, yay baby.’

David added: “He’s a Christian. As we were going through this whole film, I had a lot of other projects that came and went, and I thought this is the one I want to do.”

The Wrestler actor believes the pair’s discussions created enough material for more than one film, but he thinks the way David turned them into the finished film was “beautiful”.

He said, “Well, I would have made at least two movies, maybe three with everything we came up with from the beginning. There were times when I was in town for months at a time and we met regularly and…”

David inserted, “Sometimes two or three times a week.”

Christian continued: “And then I went home for a little while, and while I was gone I have to say he did his best. I went back and it took him much longer. No. David has his own way. All these companions of ideas come to him. We would talk about them, I would leave, come back and see what he did with them. I would have forgotten, but he doesn’t forget anything and it was great to see it all come together.”
