Chesterfield teachers are holding presents for Fox Elementary School teachers

RICHMAND, Virginia (WRIC) – Local teachers in Chesterfield County held a handout today in favor of William Fox Elementary School teachers who lost everything in a tragic fire that broke out just weeks ago. The distribution was organized by two former teachers of the public school a few days after the fire.

“I always tell my students that it doesn’t have to happen to you to make it matter to you. And we see so many people who really believe that, ”said Anne Marie Holstead.

Bags with gift cards and other souvenirs were given to Fox teachers at the site of the charred remains of the school. Each bag contained a $ 150 gift card for Amazon, a $ 25 gift card for Target, a fox figurine, a new set of pens, a pen bag, homemade cookies and a letter from a local community member offering each teacher a “something special” collaboration with local artists that they will make for teachers if they have a place in the classroom for a gift.

Amy Foster said an Amazon wish list had been created for teachers in which people could purchase much-needed items. The items were delivered directly to her home, where she was able to collect everything for the teachers.

“A lot of it comes right out of a teacher’s pocket, and that’s why it was so important for us to give it directly to teachers,” Foster said.

Holsted and Foster said that thanks to Amazon’s wish list, they were able to gather all the material to be given away without adding extra work to Fox teachers themselves.

“They still have a living and healthy fox spirit, but it takes a lot to get back from something like that,” Halstead said.
