Bob Dylan’s book “Modern Song” will be released in November

NEW YORK – This fall, Bob Dylan will publish a new book, a collection of more than 60 essays on songs and songwriters he admires, from Stephen Foster to Elvis Costello.

The new book “Philosophy of Modern Song” is his first issue of new material after the famous memoir “Chronicles, first volume” was published in 2004. “Philosophy of Modern Song” is scheduled for November 8.

“He analyzes what he calls the trap of light rhymes, breaks down how adding one syllable can reduce a song, and even explains how bluegrass is related to heavy metal,” Simon & Schuster said in an announcement Tuesday. “And although they (essays) are supposedly about music, in fact they are meditations and reflections on the human condition. The whole book is accompanied by almost 150 carefully selected photographs, as well as a series of dreamy reefs, which together resemble an epic poem.

The 80-year-old singer and songwriter received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016 and continued touring and recording, his latest album “Rough and Rowdy Ways” was released in 2020.
