Writing computer code isn’t as difficult as you might think, according to the program’s organizers in Arlington, Virginia.
Knowing how to write computer code has become a valuable skill in today’s increasingly digital world, but it can seem like a daunting task to learn.
However, it’s not as difficult as you might think, say organizers of the program in Arlington, Virginia.
“You don’t need a college degree, and you don’t need years of experience or training,” said Steve Cooper, the company’s CEO. NextUp Solutionsthe company that manages Arlington Talent Pilot Program.
The program provides participants with training and networking, setting them up for eventual employment in the technology sector. Participants are paid and work with expert technical consultants on real-world projects to gain software development skills.
“You can learn how to code in a few months,” Cooper said. “We have Uber drivers, grocery store workers and restaurant workers in the program who are now learning to be qualified software engineers.”
Learning to write computer code provides program participants with a wide range of benefits, including problem-solving skills and new career opportunities. As technology advances, the demand for professionals with coding skills has skyrocketed.
“I’ve always been interested in technology, but I just didn’t have time to go to school,” said Mark Washington, a program participant.
Washington was a barber for 15 years before signing up for the program.
“I started with it, not knowing anything,” Washington said. “If I can learn it, I feel like anyone can learn it … if you really want to do it, you can do it.”
Coding can be applied to a wide range of industries, including web development, mobile app development, and data science.
Whether someone has an idea for a new app or website, it provides an opportunity to turn those ideas into reality.
“Especially in our model where there’s mentoring and on-the-job work, you can really learn it in a much more accelerated way,” Cooper said.
