A toddler died when his mother’s car ran into the road, Chesapeake police say

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Police confirm a toddler has died after being struck by a car driven by his mother Thursday afternoon.

Chesapeake Police officers responded to a crash call on Avonlea Drive at 12:50 a.m. Thursday.

According to the results of the preliminary investigation, a woman was driving through a residential area when her young son crossed the path of her car and was hit.

The child was taken to a local hospital. Police said he died of his injuries a short time later.

Police say this is an active scene and they will release more information as it becomes available.
